Last update: 2006
I haven't been writing much in the news section here lately, but there's lots going on... we're getting the ECRG road trip together, the official RoboMontreal Apareil is on its way (including some damn nice T-Shirts), and of course there's a whole lot of robot building going on.
As for the web site, I've added RoboWars.ca in a prominent position on the site, as they're our official, Montreal-based, open robotics competition!
I've aloso added Part II of the Polycarbonaut build guide to the site. This section deals with mounting up brains, sensors and batteries. Basically, the final mechanical touches before programming can begin. Access it from the main menu bar to the left.
Finally, for those who haven't noticed, we're having monthly meetings! It's a great way to meet local roboticists. Check the box at the top-right of this main page to see when the next meeting is.
That's it for today - happy building!
We're improving our website's look and maintainability - thought it would be wise to do so before things get too large. By using CSS and becoming W3C compliant, we can probably save a lot of headaches later on. Besides which, the rounded corners give the site a trendy web 2.0 vibe...
Let me know if you notice any problems with the site during the transition.
Added a couple links to the Other Clubs section, and a nifty "Next Meeting" box to the top of the page. Some RoboMontreal members have also formed a team for RobotRacing, and are recruiting. Check out the forum for more info.
We're having our first meeting tomorrow! Rather short notice, though we've been talking about it on the forum for a while. Details:
Meeting: Tues, June 6, 7:00 p.m.
Le Faubourg Ste-Catherine
Upstairs in the food court
1616 RUE SAINTE-CATHERINE OUEST
Metro Guy
Special Guest : Polycarbonaut
Hope to see you there!
Added Quentin's input to the Polycarbonaut guide - thanks Quentin! I'm going to have some time to work on the electronics in the next while, and if I have anything more intelligent to say than "gee that L298 data sheet makes it easy to mix up the long and short pins", I'll consider throwing it into a short 2nd part for the guide.
Made a couple minor changes to the web page. The Robot Viewer should now load after the rest of the page, which is much nicer. Found the solution here - it's a frames-meets-div-tags kind of thing. Please let me know if your browser chokes on it, or any other part of the page.
For those interested, I've put up a build guide for a polycarbonate-and-aluminum robot. Link is in the Resources section to the left. Feedback in the forum.
Finally got some time to update the page... new logo in place (looks pretty spiffy, I think!), and the old contest rules and stuff are archived for posterity here.
Added "The Robot Viewer" to the web page, at Oopicrgolem's suggestion. Nifty!
A big congratulations to Quentin and Jon, the first- and second- prize winners in our logo design contest!
Thanks to all the participants for the great work, and happy robot building!
Submissions closed for the logo contest - I've set up the poll on the forum. Go and vote for your favourite! Remember, you're voting for the logo that you think works best for RoboMontreal....
Thanks to all the participants for the great work, and good luck!
Still some entries trickling in, with just one day to go in the logo contest! Some really nice stuff up there so far... I'm anxious to see what the last-minute crowd will produce.... Submissions must be in by 12:00 noon EST tomorrow.
Also, I've added a light-backgrounded viewing page for the logos... this is to make sure those logos that look good on light backgrounds get their fair chance!
Only one week left in the logo design contest - entries due next Friday at noon!
You can view logo entries on the new logos page. That deadline's gonna sneak up pretty fast... and with the only entry so far, oopicrgolem(jim) is in a good position to collect some nice prizes with his RM logo!
Launched the logo design contest. Get your entries in!
RobotShop.ca, Montreal's biggest (only?) robotics shop, have listed us in their community links section.
Added a couple links to the retailers page.
Misc. website stuff: fixed up a problem that prevented the web site from displaying accents on some browsers. Turns out those meta tags are important after all!
The logo design contest has been put on standby while resources gather.
Launched the web site. For now, it's just an FAQ and a couple links, but it's bound to grow. Also, the logo is only temporary - I wanted to get something up as quickly as possible.
Keep checking the forum, and get your artistic skills honed! Once we've got enough people's attention, we'll be hosting a logo design contest. Who knows, there may even be prizes! On that note, if you have any prizes you want to donate for a logo design contest, let us know.... ; )
